Objectives

Duration: 10 to 15 minutes

The Objectives stage aims to set the groundwork for the lesson by clearly outlining the main and secondary goals to be achieved. By defining the objectives, the teacher establishes a clear direction for the lesson and provides students with an understanding of what is expected of them, engaging them actively in the learning process from the start.

Main Objectives

1. Recognize and differentiate various music genres, such as classical music, rock, pop, among others.

2. Encourage the aesthetic appreciation of music, promoting an environment of attentive listening and constructive criticism.

Side Objectives

  1. Promote discussion about the influence of social media on the dissemination and popularization of different music genres.
  2. Encourage students' personal expression through music, allowing them to share their musical experiences and preferences.

Introduction

Duration: 15 to 20 minutes

The purpose of this stage is to prepare students for the lesson's topic, encouraging them to reflect on and share prior knowledge about musical expression. This will help build a collaborative and engaged environment for the lesson, allowing students to feel more comfortable discussing and exploring the topic in depth.

Warming Up

To start the topic Musical Expression, begin by explaining to the students that music is present in all aspects of our lives, from celebrations and rituals to our daily routine. Instruct the students to use their cell phones to find an interesting fact about a specific music genre or the history of music in general and share it with the class.

Initial Reflections

1. What is your favorite music genre and why?

2. Do you know of any music style that is popular in another country? Which one?

3. How do you think social media influences the popularity of certain music genres?

4. Have you ever discovered a song or artist through social media? Share with the class.

5. What is the importance of music in your daily life?

Development

Duration: 75 to 85 minutes

The purpose of this stage is to provide hands-on learning, allowing students to apply their knowledge in practical activities that explore musical expression in innovative and technologically integrated ways. This promotes greater engagement and facilitates a deeper understanding of the different music genres.

Activity Suggestions

It is recommended that only one of the suggested activities be carried out

Activity 1 -  Creating a Music Influencer Profile 

> Duration: 60 to 70 minutes

- Objective: Promote the understanding and appreciation of various music genres, stimulating students' creativity and research skills.

- Description: Students will create a profile on a fictional social media platform, where they must choose a music genre to represent. They should prepare posts, stories, and even simulated live sessions to promote the chosen genre, using historical facts, curiosities, and sound examples.

- Instructions:

  • Divide students into groups of up to 5 people.

  • Each group must choose a music genre (e.g., classical music, rock, pop).

  • Students will use their cell phones or computers to collect information, images, and videos related to the chosen music genre.

  • Each group will create a profile on a fictional social media platform (this can be done on Google Slides, Canva, or another digital tool) to represent their music genre.

  • Students must prepare at least 3 posts, 2 stories, and 1 simulated live session. The posts can include curiosities, performance videos, and analyses of famous songs.

  • After creating the content, each group will present their profile to the class.

Activity 2 -  Exploring the Musical World with Podcasts 

> Duration: 60 to 70 minutes

- Objective: Encourage research and communication, promoting understanding and the ability to convey knowledge about different music genres.

- Description: Students will create a themed podcast about a specific music genre. They should research the history, characteristics, and representative artists of the chosen genre, as well as record episodes and edit the content for a final presentation.

- Instructions:

  • Divide students into groups of up to 5 people.

  • Each group must choose a music genre to explore in their podcast.

  • Students will use mobile devices or computers to research relevant information about the chosen music genre.

  • After research, groups will plan and write the script for at least 3 podcast episodes.

  • Students will record and edit the episodes, using recording and audio editing apps such as Anchor, Audacity, or others.

  • Groups will present at least one episode of the podcast to the class, discussing their findings and the production process.

Activity 3 -  Remix Challenge ️

> Duration: 60 to 70 minutes

- Objective: Stimulate creativity, collaboration, and understanding of the different characteristics of music genres through practice and experimentation.

- Description: Students will participate in a remix challenge, where they must create a new version of a famous song using music editing apps. They will have to decide which style they want to apply to the remix and justify their choices.

- Instructions:

  • Divide students into groups of up to 5 people.

  • Each group must choose a famous song to remix.

  • Students will use music editing apps like GarageBand, FL Studio, or others to create their remix.

  • Groups should discuss and plan how they will transform the original song, choosing a new genre or style to apply to the remix.

  • Students will create the remix and add effects, rhythm changes, and other creative elements.

  • After finalizing the remix, groups will present their versions to the class, explaining the creative process and the choices made during editing.

Feedback

Duration: 20 to 25 minutes

The purpose of this stage is to provide a space for reflection and collaborative learning. Through group discussion, students can share their experiences, learn from each other's processes and perspectives, and consolidate their acquired knowledge. 360° feedback promotes a culture of mutual support and personal development, encouraging communication skills and constructive self-criticism.

Group Discussion

To promote group discussion, the teacher can start with the following introduction: 'Now that all groups have completed their activities, let's share what we've learned. Each group will have the opportunity to present their achievements, talk about the challenges faced, and explain their creative choices. Let's listen attentively and ask questions to better understand everyone's work.'

Reflections

1. What were the main challenges your group faced while completing the activity? How did you overcome them? 2. What did you learn about the music genre you chose to represent? Was there any information or aspect that surprised you? 3. How did the creation process (influencer profile, podcast, or remix) help deepen your understanding of musical expression?

360° Feedback

Instruct students to conduct a 360° feedback stage after the group discussion. Each student should give and receive feedback from their group peers. Guide the class to ensure that feedback is constructive, focusing on strengths and areas for improvement, such as: 'One thing you did well was...', 'One thing you could improve is...' and 'One suggestion I have for you is...'. Reinforce the importance of maintaining respect and empathy during this stage.

Conclusion

Duration: 10 to 15 minutes

The conclusion aims to consolidate the knowledge acquired during the lesson, connecting it to the context of the modern world and highlighting its practical relevance. This stage also offers a moment to celebrate the students' accomplishments, promoting a positive and motivating closure for the continuous learning of musical expression.

Summary

 Fun Musical Summary : Today, our young music influencers dove into the fascinating world of musical expression.  They explored various genres, from classical to rock and pop, and used digital tools to create profiles, podcasts, and remixes! Each group revealed musical curiosities and shed light on the history and influences of their chosen genre. A true showcase of talent and creativity, isn't it? 

In today's world, music is omnipresent, influencing fashions, behaviors, and even social movements.  With social media and digital platforms, new artists emerge and gain prominence every day, connecting people from diverse cultures and regions.
