Premises: This Active Lesson Plan assumes: a 100-minute class duration, prior student study both with the Book and the beginning of Project development, and that only one activity (among the three suggested) will be chosen to be carried out during the class, as each activity is designed to take up a large part of the available time.

Objective

Duration: (5 - 10 minutes)

The Objectives phase is crucial for setting a clear course for the lesson. By outlining and explaining the main objectives, the teacher helps students focus on the learning goals, which is to identify and discuss the characteristics and importance of physical activities that involve throwing. This phase ensures everyone is aligned and aware of the learning targets, enhancing engagement with the practical workouts planned for the class.

Objective Utama:

1. Empower students to recognize and describe physical activities that involve strength and motor coordination, particularly in target-throwing sports.

2. Encourage an understanding of the significance of these activities in daily life and in both organized and informal sports.

Introduction

Duration: (15 - 20 minutes)

The Introduction phase serves to tap into students' existing knowledge and link what they’ve studied at home with practical activities in class. By presenting problem scenarios, students are encouraged to think critically and apply their throwing concepts in different contexts. This contextualization highlights the relevance of the topic, connecting it to real-life situations and other areas of knowledge to amplify students' interest and motivation.

Problem-Based Situation

1. Picture yourself in a game called 'Human Javelin.' What technique do you think would give you the best shot at hitting the target accurately? Discuss this with your classmates.

2. Think of a time when you needed to use your throwing skills, like tossing a piece of paper into the recycling bin. Which body parts do you think are key for controlling your throw and hitting the target?

Contextualization

Throwing games and activities are not just enjoyable but also have tangible applications in a variety of sports and recreational pursuits. For instance, in basketball, throwing is vital for scoring, and practicing throwing with a football is a cherished tradition in many schools across Canada. Moreover, throwing is an important skill in everyday life, whether it’s tossing a frisbee in the park or aiming to hit a target at a carnival. Understanding and refining these skills can improve both motor coordination and movement precision.

Development

Duration: (75 - 85 minutes)

The Development phase is designed for students to apply and extend the knowledge gained at home about throwing games and activities. Through hands-on and engaging tasks, students will have the opportunity to hon in their throwing abilities while collaborating as a team, competing in a friendly spirit, and improving both motor coordination and precision. This phase aims to reinforce learning through active participation, ensuring that students are able to internalize concepts while enjoying the process.

Activity Suggestions

It is recommended that only one of the suggested activities be carried out

Activity 1 - The Grand Throw

> Duration: (60 - 70 minutes)

- Objective: Practice throwing objects at both fixed and moving targets, enhancing precision and motor coordination.

- Description: In this activity, students will be split into groups of up to 5 individuals. Each group will receive various objects to throw, such as tennis balls, bean bags, or plastic discs. The objective is to hit multiple targets marked on the ground or walls. In addition to a fixed target, each group must create a moving target, like a paper plate suspended by a string and moved by a group member. Each target carries a point value, and the group with the most points at the end will be crowned the winner.

- Instructions:

  • Divide the class into groups of no more than 5 students.

  • Distribute the throwing objects and lay out the rules of the activity.

  • Mark a throwing line at a safe distance from the targets.

  • Each group will have 5 attempts on both the fixed targets and the moving target.

  • Keep track of each group’s scores after each round.

  • At the end, tally the points and declare the winning group.

Activity 2 - Frisbee Challenge

> Duration: (60 - 70 minutes)

- Objective: Improve throwing and catching skills using frisbees, promoting teamwork and coordination amongst group members.

- Description: Students will engage in a challenge to throw a frisbee in a designated area on the field. The goal is for the frisbee to be caught by a partner before being returned. For each successful throw and catch, the group takes a step forward. The group that advances the furthest on the field by the end of the lesson will be declared the winner.

- Instructions:

  • Divide the class into groups of up to 5 students.

  • Explain the game rules, including how points are earned by moving forward.

  • Demonstrate basic frisbee throwing techniques.

  • Allow students a short practice session before launching the competition.

  • Kick off the challenge and monitor each group's progress.

  • At the end of the lesson, determine which group moved the farthest on the field.

Activity 3 - Throwing Circuit

> Duration: (60 - 70 minutes)

- Objective: Develop throwing skills in diverse contexts and with various objects, fostering healthy competition and teamwork among participants.

- Description: Students will take part in a circuit featuring different throwing stations. Each station will present a unique challenge, such as tossing a piece of paper into a bin, knocking down stacked cans with a tennis ball, or targeting a moving object with a bean bag. After completing each station, the group will move to the next. The group that finishes the circuit in the shortest amount of time will be celebrated as the winner.

- Instructions:

  • Set up the circuit with at least 5 distinct throwing stations.

  • Divide the class into groups of up to 5 students and explain the rules of the circuit.

  • Start the circuit one group at a time, timing how long they take to finish all the stations.

  • Ensure each group receives clear instructions for every station before starting.

  • At the end, total the times for each group and declare the quickest group as the winner.

Feedback

Duration: (10 - 15 minutes)

The aim of the feedback phase is to encourage students to reflect on the activities undertaken, share their experiences and insights, and grasp the significance of teamwork and motor coordination. Group discussions help consolidate the knowledge gained, allowing students to verbalize their learning and hear varied perspectives from their peers, enriching their understanding of the topic and highlighting the practical application of the concepts explored.

Group Discussion

To kick off the group discussion, the teacher should gather all students in a circle and start with a brief introduction of what will be covered. It’s recommended that each group shares their experiences, focusing on what they enjoyed most and what they found tricky during the throwing activities. The teacher can use guiding questions to steer the discussion, like: 'Which throwing techniques did you find to be the most effective, and why?' or 'How do you think the practice of throwing can be useful in other aspects of your life?'

Key Questions

1. What were the main challenges you faced when trying to hit the targets during the throwing activities?

2. How were communication and teamwork essential during the throwing tasks?

3. In what ways do you think you can apply what you've learned about throwing in other activities or sports?

Conclusion

Duration: (5 - 10 minutes)

The purpose of this Conclusion phase is to strengthen and synthesize the knowledge acquired by students, linking practical activities with the theoretical concepts discussed earlier. This recap assists in solidifying learning and understanding the applicability of the topics explored, equipping students to integrate these skills into their everyday lives and future sporting endeavors.

Summary

In wrapping up today's lesson, the teacher will summarize the key points covered, emphasizing the practical throwing activities and games played. The application of various throwing techniques in different contexts will be highlighted, along with the vital role that motor coordination and precision played in the success of the activities.

Theory Connection

This lesson effectively linked theory and practice by examining how the throwing concepts discussed at home were manifested in real and simulated activities during class. Practical application allowed students to see and experience firsthand what they studied, reinforcing their grasp on the importance of throwing skills in a variety of scenarios.

Closing

Finally, the teacher will underscore the significance of throwing skills in students' everyday lives, extending beyond just sports. These skills impact motor coordination, concentration, and teamwork, applicable to situations as simple as tossing a piece of paper in the garbage or engaging in more complex sports, demonstrating the value of understanding and honing such capabilities.
