Objectives

Duration: 10 to 15 minutes

The goal of this stage is to provide a clear and structured view of the main objectives of the lesson, ensuring that students have a solid understanding of how climates are distributed globally and how they affect both ecosystems and human life. This clarity is essential to guide the practical activities and discussions that will take place throughout the lesson.

Main Objectives

1. Understand the distribution of the main climates around the world.

2. Analyze how different climates influence local ecosystems.

3. Study the interactions between climate and human life in various regions.

Side Objectives

Introduction

Duration: 15 to 20 minutes

The aim of this stage is to engage students from the outset, connecting them to the theme in a contextualized and practical way. By encouraging them to seek additional information, a deeper and personal understanding of the importance of climate is promoted. The key questions are designed to provoke initial reflection and prepare students for more complex activities throughout the lesson.

Warming Up

To start the lesson, explain that climate is one of the most important factors shaping life on Earth. The different types of climate influence everything from vegetation to cultural customs in various regions of the world. Ask students to use their phones to find an interesting fact about how climate affects a specific region and share it with the class.

Initial Reflections

1. What are the main climates found on our planet?

2. How do different climates influence biodiversity in various regions?

3. In what ways does climate impact people's daily lives around the world?

4. What are the biggest challenges faced by regions with extreme climates?

5. How can climate change affect existing climates today?

Development

Duration: 70 to 80 minutes

The goal of this stage of the lesson plan is to actively and practically engage students, using digital technologies to explore and deepen knowledge about the different climates of the world. The activities are designed to promote collaboration, creativity, and the application of theoretical knowledge in real-world contexts, facilitating meaningful learning.

Activity Suggestions

It is recommended that only one of the suggested activities be carried out

Activity 1 - Climate Influencers

> Duration: 60 to 70 minutes

- Objective: Thoroughly understand the different climates and their influences through the creation of digital content, developing research, synthesis, and communication skills.

- Description: Students will create a series of social media posts (Instagram, Twitter, or TikTok) as if they were digital influencers specializing in climates. Each group will have to talk about one type of climate, addressing how it influences both the ecosystem and human life in that region. They must create at least three posts, including one video post, one image with a detailed description, and one infographic.

- Instructions:

  • Divide students into groups of up to 5 people.

  • Each group will select a type of climate to work on (for example, tropical, desert, polar, etc.).

  • Students will research more in-depth about the selected climate using their phones and/or computers.

  • Each group must create three social media posts: a short video (max. 1 minute), an image with a detailed description, and an informative infographic.

  • Students can use online tools like Canva to create infographics and image edits.

  • Groups should present their posts to the class, explaining their choices and the importance of the information shared.

  • Finally, conduct a brief discussion about the posts, commenting on strengths and improvements.

Activity 2 - Climate Game Show

> Duration: 60 to 70 minutes

- Objective: Test and expand knowledge about climates in an interactive and fun way, promoting healthy competition and collaboration among students.

- Description: Students will participate in an online quiz game about the climates of the world. Using platforms like Kahoot, groups will answer questions about the various types of climates, their characteristics, impact on ecosystems, and human life. This game show can be broadcast live to engage the whole class and encourage healthy competition.

- Instructions:

  • Divide students into groups of up to 5 people.

  • Create a quiz on Kahoot with questions about different types of climates, their characteristics, impacts on ecosystems, and human life.

  • Explain the rules of the game and how students will score.

  • The groups will connect to Kahoot using their phones or computers.

  • Conduct the quiz game show, ensuring that all students participate actively and answer the questions.

  • At the end of the quiz, reveal the winners and discuss the questions that caused the most doubts or errors, promoting collaborative learning.

Activity 3 - Web Documentary: Life under Different Climates

> Duration: 60 to 70 minutes

- Objective: Develop research, video editing, and communication skills while deepening knowledge about the impacts of climates in the real world.

- Description: Students will produce a mini-documentary about how different climates affect human life and ecosystems around the world. Using their phones for recording and video editing tools like WeVideo or iMovie, each group will explore a specific climate, gathering information, images, and interviews (real or simulated) to build a web documentary.

- Instructions:

  • Divide students into groups of up to 5 people.

  • Each group will choose a type of climate to explore in their documentary.

  • Students will conduct detailed research on the chosen climate, impacting human life and local ecosystems.

  • Using their phones, students will record short videos, collect images, and, if possible, conduct interviews (which can be simulated among themselves).

  • Groups will use video editing tools like WeVideo or iMovie to compile their documentary.

  • The web documentary should be between 3 and 5 minutes long.

  • Finally, groups will present their videos to the class and answer questions about the production process and the information shared.

Feedback

Duration: 20 to 25 minutes

The purpose of this stage is to promote collective and individual reflection on learning, allowing students to share their experiences and consolidate the knowledge acquired. Additionally, the 360° feedback activity will help develop self-criticism and constructive communication skills, essential for personal and academic growth.

Group Discussion

Promote a group discussion with all students, where groups share what they learned while conducting the activities and their conclusions. To introduce this discussion, use the following script:

  1. Introduction: Start by thanking the students for their effort in the activities.
  2. Group Reports: Ask each group to share a summary of the posts made on social media, the quiz game show, and the web documentary produced.
  3. Relevant Aspects: Inquire about the most interesting aspects they discovered and how the climate studied influences life in the analyzed region.
  4. Challenges and Solutions: Encourage students to discuss the biggest challenges they faced during the activity and how they overcame them.
  5. Practical Applications: Ask how the knowledge gained can be applied in their day-to-day lives or in future global climate issues.

Reflections

1. What were the most surprising discoveries about the different climates and their influences? 2. How can knowledge about climates help in solving environmental problems? 3. What skills were developed throughout the activities and how can they be useful in other subjects or in daily life?

360° Feedback

Instruct students to conduct a 360° feedback, where each student should receive feedback from their groupmates about their participation and contribution during the activities. Guide the class to ensure that the feedback is constructive and respectful, using the structure 'Strength Point, Area to Improve' to ensure that critiques are balanced and useful. Provide a moment for individual reflection after the feedback so that each student can internalize the suggestions.

Conclusion

Duration: 10 to 15 minutes

Purpose: The conclusion stage aims to consolidate learning, highlight the relevance of the topic in the current context and its practical applications, as well as provide a moment for final reflection for students. By connecting the explored content with the real world, the conclusion reinforces the importance of the topic and motivates students to apply the knowledge gained in their lives and in future global issues. 
