  2. Develop students' ability to understand and use idiomatic expressions and common phrases used in job interviews in English.

  3. Practice the correct pronunciation of words and phrases related to the topic, ensuring that students can communicate effectively in a job interview setting.

Secondary Objectives:

  • Stimulate active student participation through practical and interactive activities, promoting confidence in using English in real situations.

  • Encourage students' autonomous research, encouraging them to seek out more resources related to the lesson's theme and expand their English vocabulary.

Introduction (10 - 15 minutes)

  1. Content Review: The teacher starts the lesson by reminding students of the content already studied that is relevant to the lesson's theme, such as: personal introduction vocabulary, skills and experiences, and common phrases in interview situations. This can be done through a quick oral review or through a memory game, where students need to match English words with their respective translations or definitions.

  2. Problem-Solving Scenarios: The teacher then presents two problem-solving scenarios to pique students' interest and contextualize the lesson's subject. The first scenario could be: 'Imagine you are an exchange student applying for an internship at a foreign company. You receive an invitation for a video interview in English. What words and phrases would you need to know to prepare and participate in this interview?' The second scenario could be: 'A friend of yours is preparing for a job interview at a multinational company and asks for your help to review his resume and practice some questions he may be asked during the interview. What words and phrases would you use in this training?'

  3. Contextualization: The teacher then explains the importance of vocabulary and idiomatic expressions in an English job interview, emphasizing that the proper use of these terms can make the difference between a standout candidate and one who goes unnoticed. The teacher may share some real stories or examples to illustrate this point.

  4. Topic Presentation: To introduce the lesson's topic, the teacher can share some curiosities or interesting facts about job interviews in English. For example, the teacher can explain that in some cultures, it is common for candidates to ask questions to the interviewers during the interview, and that this can be an opportunity for the candidate to demonstrate their interest and knowledge about the company. The teacher can also talk about the importance of maintaining good eye contact during the interview, and that this can be a challenge for some candidates who are not accustomed to this practice.

With the Introduction complete, students will be prepared to delve into the lesson's content, understanding the relevance and applicability of what they will be learning.

Development (20 - 25 minutes)

  1. Theory Presentation (7 - 10 minutes)

    • The teacher introduces the main aspects of the interview in English, such as the initial greeting, personal introduction, discussion of skills and experiences, and the interview conclusion. Explains that, although these aspects may vary depending on the type of job and company, they are generally present in all interviews and, therefore, it is important to be prepared for them.

    • The teacher presents and explains the idiomatic expressions and common phrases used in each aspect of the interview. For example, in the initial greeting, students can learn the expression 'It's a pleasure to meet you.' In the discussion of skills and experiences, students can learn the phrase 'I have experience in...'.

    • The teacher emphasizes the importance of varying vocabulary to avoid repetition and using complete and grammatically correct sentences to convey a professional and confident image.

  2. Practical Activity (10 - 15 minutes)

    • The teacher divides the class into groups of 4 to 5 students and assigns each group an English job interview scenario. Scenarios may include situations such as an interview for an internship at a technology company, an interview for a customer service position at a hotel, or an interview for an English teacher position at a language school.

    • Each group should then study the scenario and create a script for the interview, including the questions the interviewer may ask and the answers the candidate should give. The script should include the use of idiomatic expressions and common phrases learned in the theory.

    • After creating the script, each group should perform the interview for the class. Other students should pay attention to the use of vocabulary and idiomatic expressions and provide feedback at the end of each performance.

  3. Discussion and Feedback (3 - 5 minutes)

    • After all groups have presented their interviews, the teacher leads a classroom discussion on the strategies students used to prepare their answers, the effectiveness of the vocabulary and idiomatic expressions used, and the difficulties students faced during the activity.

    • The teacher provides feedback to students, praising the proper use of vocabulary and idiomatic expressions and offering improvement suggestions where necessary. The teacher also answers any questions students may have and clarifies any confusion that may have arisen during the activity.

With the Development of the lesson, students will have had the opportunity to actively practice the vocabulary and idiomatic expressions relevant to a job interview in English, and will have received immediate feedback and guidance from the teacher. Additionally, the role-playing activity allowed students to experience real interview situations in a safe and controlled manner, which can help alleviate anxiety and increase their confidence in their English interview skills.

Return (8 - 10 minutes)

  1. Group Discussion (3 - 5 minutes)

    • The teacher gathers all students and initiates a group discussion about the practical activity that was conducted. Each group is invited to share their experiences in preparing and conducting their simulated interviews.

    • During this discussion, the teacher should guide students to reflect on which aspects of the vocabulary and idiomatic expressions they found most useful and which they found most challenging. The teacher can ask questions to encourage reflection, such as: 'What were the words or phrases you used the most during the interview? Why do you think these words or phrases were so useful? What words or phrases would you have liked to use but couldn't because you didn't know how to say them in English?'

    • The teacher can also ask students about any difficulties they faced during the activity and how they managed to overcome them. This can help reinforce the idea that learning new vocabulary and acquiring new skills takes time and effort, but with practice and persistence, it is possible to achieve success.

  2. Connection with Theory (2 - 3 minutes)

    • After the group discussion, the teacher makes the connection between the practical activity and the theory presented at the beginning of the lesson. The teacher highlights which aspects of the vocabulary and idiomatic expressions students used in their simulated interviews and how these terms relate to the different aspects of a job interview in English.

    • The teacher can also briefly review any terms or phrases that students may still be confused or unsure about, and offer more examples or explanations to help clarify these doubts.

  3. Final Reflection (3 - 5 minutes)

    • To conclude the lesson, the teacher proposes that students reflect on what they have learned. The teacher can ask questions such as: 'What was the most important concept you learned today? What questions have not been answered yet? How do you plan to apply what you learned today in real job interview situations?'

    • Students have a minute to think about their answers, and then are invited to share their reflections with the class. The teacher should encourage all students to participate, creating a welcoming and encouraging environment where all ideas and opinions are valued.

With the Return stage, the teacher provides students with the opportunity to reflect on what they have learned, to connect theory with practice, and to express any doubts or concerns they may have. This helps consolidate learning and prepare students for future lessons or activities related to the theme.

Conclusion (5 - 7 minutes)

  1. Summary and Recapitulation (2 - 3 minutes)

    • The teacher begins the Conclusion of the lesson by summarizing the main points covered during the lesson. This includes reviewing the vocabulary and idiomatic expressions used in different aspects of a job interview in English, as well as discussing their practical applications through the role-playing activity.

    • The teacher may remind students of the importance of varying vocabulary, using complete and grammatically correct sentences, and maintaining good eye contact during a job interview in English.
