Introduction

Duration: (15 - 20 minutes)

The purpose of this stage is to prepare students to develop practical reading and comprehension skills, essential for both academic success and the job market. Through text interpretation, students will learn to extract relevant information, a valuable skill in various professions. This stage highlights the importance of understanding and analyzing texts, fundamental skills for effective communication and informed decision-making.

Contextualization

Reading and comprehension of texts are fundamental skills not only for academic success but also for everyday life and professional settings. Imagine needing to understand a work contract, an important news article, or even the instructions for a new electronic device. The ability to interpret texts accurately allows one to make informed decisions and communicate them effectively.

Curiosities and Market Connection

Did you know that many professions directly depend on the ability to comprehend texts? Lawyers, journalists, doctors, and even engineers need to interpret complex documents daily. Additionally, the ability to synthesize and communicate information clearly is a skill valued in almost every career.

Initial Activity

Project a short 3-minute video about the importance of reading and comprehension in professional life. After the video, ask a provoking question: 'How can reading influence your professional future?'. Ask students to reflect for 2 minutes and share their ideas in a quick discussion.

Development

Duration: (45 - 50 minutes)

The purpose of this stage is to deepen students' understanding of the structure and content of texts, as well as to develop critical analysis and information synthesis skills. Through practical and collaborative activities, students will have the opportunity to apply the knowledge gained in meaningful and relevant ways for the job market.

Covered Topics

  1. Structure and organization of the text
  2. Identification of main and secondary information
  3. Interpretation and critical analysis
  4. Synthesis of information

Reflections on the Theme

Guide students to reflect on how the ability to interpret texts extends beyond the school context and is also essential in everyday life and the job market. Ask: 'How can the ability to understand and synthesize information impact your future careers and personal decisions?'

Mini Challenge

Unraveling the Text

Students will work in groups to analyze a text provided by the teacher. They will need to identify the structure of the text, the main and secondary points, and synthesize the information into a visual format, such as an infographic or a mind map.

Instructions

  1. Divide students into groups of 4 to 5 members.
  2. Distribute a text to each group. The text should be relevant and challenging, appropriate for the students' level of comprehension.
  3. Ask the groups to read the text carefully and discuss among themselves to identify the structure of the text (introduction, development, conclusion).
  4. The groups must identify the main and secondary information and highlight these in the text.
  5. Provide materials for students to create an infographic or mind map that synthesizes the content of the text (paper, colored pens, etc.).
  6. Each group must present their work to the class, explaining how they reached their conclusions and showing the infographic or mind map created.

Objective: Develop the ability to interpret and synthesize information from a text, promoting collaboration and creativity among students.

Duration: (35 - 40 minutes)

Evaluation Exercises

  1. Ask students to write a paragraph summarizing the text analyzed by the group, highlighting the most important information.
  2. Propose an individual text interpretation activity, where each student must answer specific questions about a new text provided by the teacher. Questions may include: What is the main idea of the text? What are the secondary pieces of information? How do these pieces of information relate to each other?
  3. Conduct a classroom discussion where students share their summaries and responses, promoting critical reflection on different interpretations and understandings of the text.

Conclusion

Duration: (15 - 20 minutes)

The purpose of this stage is to consolidate students' learning, allowing them to reflect on what they have learned and discuss their experiences. This helps reinforce the importance of the skills developed and connect the lesson content with practical and relevant applications for the job market and everyday life.

Discussion

Facilitate an open discussion with students about what they learned during the lesson. Encourage them to share their experiences with the mini challenge 'Unraveling the Text' and how they applied reading and comprehension skills in the practical activity. Ask: 'What were the most challenging parts of the exercise? How did you resolve these difficulties?'. Stimulate reflection on how these skills can be useful in different contexts, both academic and professional.

Summary

Summarize the main contents covered during the lesson, such as the structure and organization of texts, the identification of main and secondary information, and the importance of interpretation and critical analysis. Reinforce how these skills were applied during the mini challenge and in the fixation exercises.

Closing

Explain how the lesson connected theory with practice, demonstrating that the ability to interpret and synthesize information is essential not only for academic performance but also for success in the job market. Highlight the importance of these skills in everyday life, such as understanding documents, news articles, and instructions.
