Contextualization
Hello, little explorers! Have you ever stopped to think about how we communicate and move from one place to another? This is possible thanks to Transportation and Communication Means. You must have already seen and used many of them, such as cars, buses, bicycles, telephones, and cell phones.
Let's imagine a situation: you live in a city and want to visit a relative who lives in a very distant city. How would you get there? How could you talk to your relative to let him know you are coming? These questions help us understand the importance of transportation and communication in our lives.
In the study of Transportation, we will learn about the different types of vehicles we use to get around, such as cars, buses, trains, airplanes, boats, and motorcycles. Each one of them has its particularities, such as the place where they can be used (land, water, air), the speed they can reach, and the number of people or things they can carry.
Now, in the study of the Means of Communication, we will understand how we communicate with people who are far away from us. Have you ever heard of letters? They are an example of a means of communication that we use to send messages to people who are far away. But today, we have many other means, such as the telephone, the cell phone, the internet, and social networks.
Introduction
Transportation and Communication Means are very important for our societies. They help us connect with people who are far away, to send and receive information, to transport things from one place to another, and to get to know new places and cultures.
Without transportation, it would be very difficult to reach distant places or transport heavy things. Without the means of communication, it would be complicated to talk to people who are not close to us or to receive news from distant places. So, it is essential that we understand how they work and how we can use them safely and responsibly.
In the study of transportation, we will learn about the importance of choosing the right vehicle for each type of journey, considering the time we have, the distance we will travel, and the number of people who will travel. In the study of communication, we will learn how to use these tools in an ethical and respectful way, respecting people's privacy and avoiding the spread of fake news.
Now that we know a little more about the subject, it is time to venture into the world of transportation and communication. Ready? Let's go!
Practical Activity: "Our Journey of Transportation and Communication"
Project Objective
The objective of this project is for you, little explorers, to learn more about transportation and communication, identifying their characteristics, importance, and how they are used. In addition, you will have the chance to exercise skills such as teamwork, communication, problem-solving, and creativity.
Project Description
You will create a "Map of Our Journey" and a "Letter to the Future". The "Map of Our Journey" will represent the different means of transportation that we use in our day-to-day lives and the "Communication Path" that we use to communicate with friends and family. The "Letter to the Future" will be a letter written by yourselves, telling how our life is today in terms of transportation and communication, and how you imagine it will be in the future.
Required Materials
- Cardboard or cardstock
- Color pencils, markers, crayons
- Blunt scissors
- Glue
- Old magazines for clippings
- Old newspapers for clippings
- Colored ribbons, buttons, sequins (optional decorating materials)
Step by Step
-
Form groups of 3 to 5 students. Each group will be a team of explorers.
-
Group discussion. Get together and discuss the means of transportation and communication that you know. Which ones do you use every day? Which ones have you heard of, but have never seen? Write down the ideas.
-
Map of Our Journey. Using the cardboard or cardstock, draw a large map. On it, represent the different means of transportation that you use or know: car, bus, bicycle, airplane, boat, train, etc. You can draw, paint, cut out from magazines or newspapers, or use a combination of these techniques. Remember to write the name of each means of transport next to the drawing.
-
Communication Path. On the same map, draw the "Communication Path". This means drawing or writing how you communicate with people who are far away, such as friends and family. You can draw a telephone, a cell phone, a letter, a photo, a computer, etc. Remember to write the name of each means of communication next to the drawing.
-
Letter to the Future. Each of you will write a letter to the future. In the letter, you must tell what our life is like today in terms of transportation and communication, and how you imagine it will be in the future. You can use your imagination! What will the cars and cell phones of the future be like? How will we communicate with people? Don't forget to sign the letters with each one's name.
-
Presentation. When you are finished, each group will present their "Map of Our Journey" and the "Letters to the Future" to the class. You can explain the drawings and the ideas you had. Everyone is curious to know!
Remember, explorers, the most important thing is to have fun and learn together. Good journey through the world of transportation and communication!
