Vocabulary: Main Professions

Contextualization

Introduction to the Theme

Society is composed of a wide variety of professions, each with its own importance and essential for the functioning of our economy and daily life. Learning about the different existing professions allows students not only to expand their vocabulary but also to develop a broader understanding of the community and the world. It is essential for students to understand the role of different professions and how they affect daily life. Furthermore, this knowledge can help shape their futures, giving them an idea of the careers they can choose.

In this project, we will be exploring a variety of professions in different fields, such as health, technology, education, arts, etc., potentially sparking students' interest in areas that may be unknown to them. We will learn the English vocabulary associated with these professions, allowing students to improve their language skills while gaining knowledge about the world of work.

Relevance and Application of the Theme

Understanding the different professions has a significant impact on students' lives. Choosing a career is an important decision that everyone will have to make at some point in their lives. Having a solid understanding of the different career options available can help students make informed decisions when the time comes. Furthermore, understanding professions allows students to value the work of others, creating a more respectful and understanding society.

We will also relate professions to other disciplines, such as mathematics and sciences, to show how what they learn in school is applied in the real world. This will also allow them to see how different disciplines interconnect and overlap in real life.

Atividade Prática

Activity Title: "Exploring the World of Jobs: An English Perspective"

Project Objective:

The objective of this project is to expand students' knowledge of the main professions, recognizing the English vocabulary associated with them while developing important socio-emotional skills such as time management, effective communication, problem-solving, creative thinking, and proactivity.

Detailed Project Description:

Students will be divided into groups of 3 to 5 members, and each group will choose six professions to explore. The project will be developed in three main stages: research, presentation, and report elaboration. The project will last approximately 4 weeks in total, estimating more than twelve hours per participating student to be executed.

Required Materials:

  • Computers with Internet access
  • Writing and drawing materials
  • Cardboards or card paper

Detailed Step-by-Step for Activity Execution:

  1. Research Phase (approximately two weeks): Students will research the six chosen professions. The research should include: profession description, areas of activity, training requirements, English vocabulary related to the profession, and how this profession connects to other disciplines, such as mathematics and sciences.

  2. Presentation Phase (approximately one week): Students will prepare a creative presentation about the studied professions. This presentation may include drawings, diagrams, photos, reports, interviews, and others. The group must ensure that the presentation is in English.

  3. Report Elaboration Phase (approximately one week): Based on the research and presentation, each group will elaborate a complete report in English addressing all the studied professions. The report should contain an introduction, development, conclusions, and bibliography used.

Project Delivery:

Students must deliver the final presentation and report on the predetermined date. Additionally, students must, in the written document, detail the research and creation process, discussing the challenges encountered, how they were overcome, what they learned from the project, and the conclusions drawn on the topic addressed.

Specifically, the report must have:

  1. Introduction: In this part, students must contextualize the theme, explain its relevance and application in the real world, and the project's objective.

  2. Development: Here, students must explain the theory behind the explored professions, detail the activity, indicate the research methodology used, and finally present and discuss the results obtained, including the related English vocabulary.

  3. Conclusion: In the conclusion, students must summarize their main points, explain the learnings obtained, and the conclusions drawn from the project.

  4. Bibliography: Finally, students must indicate all sources used to work on the project, such as books, web pages, videos, among others.

The final delivery of each group, both the presentation and the report, will be shared with the entire class so that everyone can learn from their classmates' work.
