Contextualization
Welcome to an exciting project about 'Pets'! We will explore this interesting world of our cute companions and understand the importance they have in our lives and in society as a whole. English, being a global language, will be our main tool on this journey. And why couldn't we learn more about pets and at the same time improve our skills in the English language?
Introduction
To begin, it is important for us to understand what domestic animals are. They are a category of animals that have been domesticated by humans over thousands of years, to live with us in our homes and communities. From cats and dogs to fish and birds, we have an incredible variety of animals that we can call our loyal friends. They provide us with companionship, love, comfort, and in some cases, even help us with daily tasks!
Domestic animals are such important parts of our lives that they also have a significant impact on the economy. The pet industry includes everything from pet food and supplies to veterinary care. In addition, pets also have a positive impact on the mental and physical health of humans.
Contextualization
Domestic animals are an intrinsic part of many families around the world. They bring joy, comfort, and are often considered family members. In addition, pets also play important roles in society. They can be therapeutic, helping people deal with stress, anxiety, and depression. Some animals are trained to be service animals, assisting people with disabilities in their daily activities.
To get an idea of the importance of pets, Brazil ranks third in the world in the population of pets, with about 139.3 million animals, according to the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).
As part of this project, we will delve into the world of domestic animals, explore different species, learn about their care, behaviors, and expand our English vocabulary in this area.
Our exploration journey will be enriched with various useful sources. We recommend the use of the following resources:
- All about Pets (Galileu Magazine)
- Animal Care Manuals (Royal Canin)
- YouTube Channel 'Fun English Games'

Project Objective
The objective of this project is to provide a platform for students to learn about different types of domestic animals, their care, behaviors, and also to expand the English vocabulary related to this field. This project also aims to stimulate teamwork, collaboration, and time management.
Project Description
Students will be divided into groups of 3 to 5, and each group will be assigned a different type of domestic animal (dogs, cats, birds, fish, etc). Students will have to conduct in-depth research on the assigned animal and present their findings in English. The presentation should include various subsections, such as animal anatomy, behavior, necessary care, curiosities, among others.
Necessary Materials
- Notebooks for taking notes.
- Computer with internet access for research.
- Materials for creating the mural (cardboards, pens, colored pencils, etc).
- Camera/cell phone for video recording.
Project Steps
1. Research and Information Collection
Students must research and collect information about the assigned animal. The research should be done in English to help improve vocabulary. In addition, they should make detailed notes about what they discover.
2. Mural Creation
Based on the collected information, students must create an informative mural about the animal. The mural should be creative and include drawings, diagrams, written information, and any other elements that students find useful for conveying the information.
3. Video Recording
Students will need to record an explanatory video, in which they present the mural and explain the details about their assigned animal. The video should be in English and should last between 10 - 15 minutes. During the video recording, students should give an oral presentation with appropriate vocabulary.
4. Report Writing
Finally, students must write a detailed report in English, contextualizing the project and detailing the steps taken, the methodology used, the discussion of results, and conclusions.
The report should have the following topics:
- Introduction: The chosen animal should be presented, its importance, and the project's objective.
- Development: Here, students should detail the research and information collection process, the creation of the mural, and the video recording. Students should discuss the results obtained.
- Conclusion: This topic should summarize the main points addressed during the project and the learning obtained.
- Bibliography: Here, students should list all sources used in the research.
These steps will not only teach students about domestic animals and the English vocabulary related to them, but also develop socio-emotional skills such as time management, communication, problem-solving, creative thinking, and proactivity.
