Fights and Practice

Contextualization

The practice of fights is a fundamental part of Physical Education and has a rich history that extends throughout the world. Fights are physical practices that involve strategy, precision, strength, and skill, each with its own rules and characteristic techniques. Some of the best-known fights include judo, boxing, karate, capoeira, jiu-jitsu, and many more. Understanding these practices is crucial to understanding the diversity, culture, and physical history of the world.

Fights are not only forms of combat, but also social practices that allow for strengthening the body, developing motor skills, as well as enhancing notions of respect and discipline. Through fights, we will also learn more about the history of different cultures, as the origin of many fights is directly connected to the history of specific communities and regions.

Introduction

In this project, we will explore the topic of fights, investigating their role in society and the impact they have on our culture and physical development. Through practical activities and theoretical research, we will delve into the worlds of different fighting practices, learning about their rules, techniques, history, and social relevance.

Students will have the opportunity to research different fights, learn about their origin, rules, and practices, and identify the characteristics that make them unique. This project will not only increase students' understanding of the importance of fights in Physical Education but also help develop research skills, teamwork, and communication.

Practical Activity: The fights and their practice

Project Objective

This project aims to broaden students' understanding of various fights, their rules, techniques, history, and importance in physical education. This will be a group project and each group will consist of 3 to 5 students.

Detailed Project Description

Students will be divided into groups, where each group will be responsible for researching a specific fight. Each group must choose a different fight and the teacher must approve each group's choice.

Required Materials

  • Internet access for research.
  • Paper and pen for note-taking.
  • Camera to record practical activities (can be a cell phone camera).
  • Materials for making a poster (cardboard, colored pencils, markers, glue, scissors, etc).

Detailed Step-by-Step

  1. Group division and choice of the fight to be researched (30 minutes).
  2. Online research on the chosen fight, its history, rules, techniques, and meaning (1 hour).
  3. Notes on the researched fight (30 minutes).
  4. Practice of basic movements of the studied fight, respecting the rules and characteristics learned. This activity must be recorded on video or photo (1 hour).
  5. Making a poster about the chosen fight, with information collected in the research and photos or illustrations of the practiced movements (1 hour).
  6. Preparation and presentation to the class about the studied fight, using the poster as visual support (30 minutes).
  7. Writing a report on the project, which should include: Introduction, Development, Conclusions, and Bibliography used (1 hour).

Project Deliverables

Each group must deliver:

  1. The poster about the chosen fight.
  2. The video or photos recording the practice of the movements.
  3. The written report.

Written Report

In the report, students should detail:

  • Introduction: Brief description of the chosen fight, its origin, and relevance.
  • Development: Detail the research conducted, describe the techniques and rules learned, and explain the process of practicing basic movements.
  • Conclusions: Recap the main points, express what was learned during the project, and what conclusions were drawn.
  • Bibliography: Indicate the sources they relied on to work on the project such as books, web pages, videos, etc.

The report should be done together by the whole group, but each student should actively participate in its preparation, ensuring that everyone has the chance to express their ideas and reflections.

Remember: the focus is always on learning and having fun!
