Contextualization
The 1929 crisis, also known as "The Great Depression," is one of the most significant events in the 20th century. This period of profound economic recession caused significant consequences not only in the United States, where it originated, but also worldwide, impacting the organization of economies and societies.
The New York Stock Market Crash marked the beginning of a turbulent period that lasted for about a decade. The effects of the crisis were felt in several ways, from mass unemployment to currency devaluation, deflation, and the growth of totalitarian regimes in Europe.
It is vital to understand the factors that led to the crisis and the policies adopted to overcome it. Among the measures taken, the New Deal policy implemented by President Franklin Roosevelt stands out as an attempt at economic recovery and reduction of the social impacts caused by the crisis.
The 1929 crisis is of utmost importance to understanding world economic history and relations between countries. It not only changed the global distribution of power but also influenced policies and development strategies in terms of economics. In this context, Brazil was directly affected, mainly in the coffee export sector, the main product of the economy at the time.
Analyzing this historical event enables critical and contextualized reflection on political, economic, and social aspects fundamental to students' education. Therefore, this project encourages research and reflection on the theme, encouraging critical thinking and group collaboration.

Practical Activities
Activity Title
"1929 Crisis: An Interdisciplinary Analysis"
Project Objective
To understand the 1929 Crisis, its historical context, consequences, and implications in the global and Brazilian scenarios. Promote cooperation among group members, in-depth research, and research and argumentation skills.
Project detailed description
Divided into groups of 3 to 5 students, the goal is an in-depth and multidisciplinary analysis of the 1929 Crisis. The research will be divided into five subtopics:
- Historical Context;
- Causes of the Crisis;
- Worldwide Developments;
- Influence in Brazil;
- Comparison with subsequent crises.
The students will be encouraged to seek information from different sources and analyze events from different perspectives using knowledge from the disciplines of history, economics, and geography.
Required Materials
Groups will need access to the internet for bibliographic research and support materials, paper, pens, software for editing text to prepare the final report, and graphic presentation software to showcase their work.
Detailed Step-by-Step
- Group division and subtopic distribution: Each group will be responsible for a subtopic and must research it thoroughly.
- Research and debate: Each group must seek additional information, using the suggested sources, and hold internal discussions to understand the subtopic.
- Report Preparation: Each group must prepare a comprehensive report about their respective subtopic. The teams must prepare the document following the proposed format, including Introduction, Development, Conclusion, and Bibliography.
- Knowledge Exchange: Each group must present its research to the other groups, promoting a collective discussion after each presentation.
- Final Report and Presentation: Based on the presentations and discussions, each group must adjust its initial report and combine them into a final report. Additionally, the teams must prepare a final project presentation where each topic will be explained in an articulate and integrated manner.
Project delivery will occur in two phases: the final report (written) and the presentation (oral).
The final report must be written clearly, objectively, and coherently, complying with formal writing standards. All research aspects must be included in the report, referencing the consulted sources and detailing the team's discussion and comprehension process. The report is to be organized as follows:
- Introduction: Contextualize the chosen subtopic, highlighting its relevance and research objectives.
- Development: Explain the theory behind the topic, describe the methodology used, and present and discuss the findings.
- Conclusion: Reiterate the main points, emphasize the acquired knowledge, and draw conclusions about the topic.
- Bibliography: Provide the sources consulted during the research.
The final presentation must be in a slide format and must include all parts of the report, presented in a dynamic and interactive manner. Each team member must participate in the presentation.
