Consider the artistic movement of Realism, which emerged as a response to romantic idealization and sought to portray reality in a raw and unembellished way. Imagine you are a contemporary realist artist and have been tasked with creating a piece of art that represents a significant historical moment of your choice. During an interdisciplinary class of Arts and History, the 6th-grade students were invited to create an illustrative panel about the evolution of artistic manifestations in the Neolithic period. The proposal was that, in addition to drawings, the panel should contain small explanatory texts about the functions and materials used in different forms of art of that time, including from the first cave paintings to the sculptures and ceramics developed by various cultures. While researching to compose their texts, the students noticed that, even in different societies, arts had in common their relationship with daily life, the expression of beliefs and mythologies, and often served as historical records.
