Objects and Memory

Easy

(Originais Teachy 2023) - Question Easy of History

Every day, we come across objects that remind us of special events or loved ones. These objects can range from toys to old photographs or letters. They help us tell stories and reminisce about the past. Considering the importance of personal objects as a source of memory and history, choose an object that you own and that is special to you. Explain why it is important and how it helps you remember past moments and people who are no longer present. How does this object contribute to your own story?
a.
The object I have is an old photograph of my family. It is significant because it shows the unity and love that has always existed among us. The photograph helps me remember the important events we celebrated together and the people who were by my side in all moments of my life.
b.
I chose a cloth doll that my mother made when I was born. It is special because it was the first gift I received and accompanied me in all moments of my childhood. The cloth doll helps me recall the stories I invented and the security I felt when I hugged it to sleep.
c.
I have a keychain that I bought on a trip with my parents. It is special because it was my first souvenir and marks the first time we went out together to a different place. The keychain helps me mentally reconstruct the trip and how much fun I had exploring a new destination with my family.
d.
The object I chose is a video game that I received on my birthday. It is important to me because it represents the advanced technology I enjoy. Whenever I play, I feel connected to my friends. The video game helps me remember the exciting matches I've played and the strategies we used to win.
e.
The object I chose is a seashell necklace that I received from my grandmother when I was young. It is very important to me because it reminds me of the summers I spent at the beach with her, collecting shells and learning about nature. Each shell on the necklace has a story and a place it came from, and when I look at them, I remember the walks we took together, the sandcastle building, and the conversations we had. The seashell necklace is like an open book of our adventures, and I cherish it dearly. It helps me feel the presence of my grandmother, who has unfortunately passed away, and keeps alive the memories of the happy moments we shared. This object is a central piece in my family history and a constant reminder of the love and bonds we shared.

Between the 7th and 8th centuries, Islam emerged and swiftly spread from the Arabian Peninsula, propelled by military campaigns and the growth of a new faith. This expansion led to the establishment of a vast empire that spanned from India to southern Europe. A key event during this period was the invasion of the Iberian Peninsula in 711 AD, spearheaded by Tariq ibn Ziyad. Given the far-reaching effects of this expansion, how did the Islamic conquest shape culture and society in the Iberian Peninsula during the era of Muslim governance?
