Cyclic Movements of the Moon and Earth

Medium

(Originais Teachy 2024) - Question Medium of Sciences

Have you ever noticed that the Moon seems to change shape in the sky? And that the Sun appears to rise in different places every day? These changes happen because the Moon and the Earth are always in motion. For example, the Moon makes a movement called translation, which is when it goes around the Earth. When the Moon completes a full circle around the Earth, we call it a month. Additionally, the Moon also rotates around its own axis, and this movement is called rotation. On the other hand, the Earth, where we live, is also in motion: it rotates around itself (this is our night and day happening!) and also moves around the Sun, and this movement is called translation. Now, thinking about everything we just learned about the movements of the Moon and the Earth, describe what happens for the Moon to change its apparent shape in the sky and explain why we see different phases of the Moon during a month. Remember to mention the translation and rotation movements of the Moon, and also how the position of the Moon, Earth, and Sun cause these changes that we can observe from Earth.

During a school outing to the Science Museum, the students looked at a model showing the different layers of the Earth: the crust, mantle, and core. While chatting about the Earth’s internal heat, one of the students asked how this heat affects the formation of volcanoes. Taking into account the features of the Earth's layers, which layer is primarily responsible for providing the heat needed for volcano formation, and why?

During a scientific expedition to a remote area, a team of researchers stumbled upon a new species of mammal. They noticed that this animal has a unique trait: its ability to store substantial amounts of energy in a specific organ, akin to the human liver. Given the liver's role in our digestive system, how might this feature influence the survival of this new mammal in a setting with limited food resources? Assess the function of the liver in our bodies and how this might adapt in this animal to craft your response.

During a lab experiment, two learners carried out a chemical reaction in a tightly sealed container, combining 10 grams of compound A with 15 grams of compound B. After the reaction, they noticed the formation of a new compound C and a residue D. Given that the total mass of the products was 25 grams, which weight law can the learners refer to in order to explain there was no loss of mass during the reaction, and how does this law relate to the context of the described experiment?
