Organic Functions: Amide Nomenclature

Easy

(Originais Teachy 2023) - Question Easy of Chemistry

Amides are organic compounds that have the functional group -CONH2. The IUPAC nomenclature for amides starts with the identification of the main chain, in which the -CONH2 group is considered a substituent and receives the prefix 'amido'. Then, the carbon atoms bonded to the nitrogen of the amide are numbered, and the name of the radical attached to the -CONH2 group is preceded by the corresponding carbon number. Considering the IUPAC nomenclature, identify and name the amide present in the following structure: CH3CH(NH2)COOH. Next, explain why this structure cannot be classified as a carboxylic acid, despite containing the carboxyl functional group (-COOH).
