Proust's Law of Definite Proportions

Medium

(Originais Teachy 2023) - Question Medium of Chemistry

Imagine you have been tasked with investigating a new compound formed by the reaction between magnesium (Mg) and chlorine (Cl2) and determining if the compound follows the Law of Proust (Law of definite proportions). It is known that two different experiments were conducted: in the first one, 12 grams of magnesium were combined with 35.5 grams of chlorine, resulting in the compound MgCl2; in the second experiment, 24 grams of magnesium were combined with 53.25 grams of chlorine. The total mass of the compound in the second experiment is 77.25 grams. Do the following: Discuss whether the compound formed in the two experiments follows the Law of Proust, justifying your answer based on the calculations performed, and if it does not follow the Law of Proust, what would be the reason.
