Sometimes in English, we want to say that something is not true or that we don't have something. For example, if I have a pencil and I want to say that I don't have an eraser, I can use a negative form. Look at this sentence: 'I have an apple.' If I don't have an apple, I can change the sentence to the negative form like this: 'I don't have an apple.' Now, imagine you have a dog and you want to say that it's not small. In this sentence, 'is' is used with the singular subject 'London' to express the quality of being 'vibrant' and the characteristic of having a 'diverse population.' Furthermore, 'The museums in the city are renowned for their extensive collections.' The plural form 'are' is used with the plural subject 'The museums' to convey that they are 'renowned' and to describe the quality of their 'extensive collections.' The verb 'to be' thus helps to clarify the current state and existence of the city's landmarks, culture, and people, while allowing for the expression of their qualities and characteristics, which are integral to the city's identity and character.
