Ancient Rome: Roman Empire

Hard

(Originais Teachy 2024) - Question Hard of History

During the Roman Empire, the city of Rome not only established itself as a political and economic center, but also as an influential cultural hub that shaped Western society. The imposing and grandiose architecture, strongly influenced by engineering, allowed the construction of structures such as the Colosseum, which to this day is an icon of Roman skill and vision. In parallel, the political organization of the empire, which incorporated republican and authoritarian principles, presented a complex and enduring model of administration. Considering the historical context and the influence of the Roman Empire, and taking as a reference a passage from The Book of Disquiet by the Portuguese writer Fernando Pessoa, reflecting on the human condition and the search for the meaning of life, 'It does nothing, but nothing does it, and it never rests from doing it. And this is both the essence of life and the explanation that life cannot have essence.' (Fernando Pessoa, 1982). Based on the interrelation between the Roman contribution to the Western world and the reflection proposed by the author, analyze to what extent the Roman cultural legacy, manifested through its constructions and political principles, reflects in contemporary society and in the individual's perception of the meaning of life and history.
