(Originais Teachy 2023) - Question Hard of History

The Code of Hammurabi, one of the earliest written legal codes in history, is one of the great contributions of Babylonian civilization. According to historian Paul Kriwaczek, in his book 'Babylon: Mesopotamia and the Birth of Civilization,' 'Hammurabi envisioned a just society where the strong would not harm the weak and where the law would protect the freedom and property of all.' Based on this information and considering your knowledge of Mesopotamian history and the legacy of its civilizations, discuss how the Code of Hammurabi reflects the sociopolitical and cultural transformations that occurred in Mesopotamia and how these transformations may have influenced future societies.
a.
The Code of Hammurabi reflects the sociopolitical and cultural transformations that occurred in Mesopotamia by establishing the idea that the State has the responsibility to intervene in social life to ensure justice and order. This legal code influenced future societies by incorporating many of its laws into other legal systems in the Middle East and by establishing the concept of a written legal code that regulates the conduct of citizens, an idea that was adopted by almost all subsequent societies.
b.
The Code of Hammurabi, although an important historical document, does not reflect the sociopolitical and cultural transformations that occurred in Mesopotamia, as it was just a set of arbitrary laws imposed by King Hammurabi and did not represent the values or social organization of the time.
c.
The Code of Hammurabi had no influence on future societies, as its laws were very specific to the reality of ancient Mesopotamia and were not incorporated into other legal systems.
d.
The Code of Hammurabi reflects the sociopolitical and cultural transformations that occurred in Mesopotamia, but did not establish the idea that the State has the responsibility to intervene in social life to ensure justice and order. This idea was only introduced in much more recent societies.
e.
The Code of Hammurabi, despite being a historical milestone, does not reflect the sociopolitical and cultural transformations that occurred in Mesopotamia, as it was just a compilation of existing laws and did not introduce new concepts of justice or social order.
