During the 18th century, the Enlightenment consolidated as a philosophical movement that advocated reason as the main means to achieve freedom, justice, and human emancipation. In this context, various schools of thought emerged discussing the limits of monarchical power and the importance of science and education for society. In light of this, analyze the role of Enlightenment theories in shaping ideas such as the democratic state and economic liberalism, and discuss how the works of thinkers like Voltaire and Montesquieu influenced political and social reforms in the period. Additionally, critically evaluate the relationship between Enlightenment ideas and the colonial context of the time, considering the various perspectives of the involved agents.
