A curumim, bored because of the flood that flooded the backyard of his house, observes from the door the waves coming from a wake caused by a vessel. With the help of a clock and, taking as reference part of the fence that emerges from the water, he verifies that thirty wave crests pass in a minute. He also observes that a certain crest of this wave travels the distance between the fence and the stairs of his house in two seconds.
