During the 19th century, the so-called 'scramble for Africa' occurred in the context of imperialism, in which European powers divided and colonized the African continent, causing intense effects on local populations and altering geopolitical dynamics. Considering this historical process, 1) explain the main economic, political, and social motivations that led European nations to establish colonies in Africa; 2) discuss the forms of resistance by African populations to colonial processes and how these struggles influenced future international issues; and 3) compare the role of different agents, such as empires, nation-states, and international organizations, in the occupation of space and the formation of borders in Africa during and after the scramble, considering the varied socioeconomic, political, and technological characteristics.
