Alfred Wegener, a German meteorologist, proposed in 1912 the theory of Continental Drift, which suggested that Earth's continents were once joined together in a supercontinent called Pangaea. After his death, the theory was refined and gained acceptance through the theory of Plate Tectonics. The latter explains not only the drift of continents, but also the formation of mountains, volcanoes, and oceanic trenches. Based on this context, theoretically justify: (1) How plate tectonics explains the formation of continents and their current positions; (2) Why the Brazilian coast and the African coast have shapes that seem to 'fit' together, as observed by Wegener in his initial proposal.
