Suppose a window is composed of two glass plates, each with a thickness of 0.005 m and an area A = 2 m², and the space between them is filled with dry air. The internal temperature of the house is 20°C and the external temperature is 0°C. Consider the thermal conductivity of glass to be 0.96 W/m·K and that of air to be 0.024 W/m·K. Use this information to answer the following questions: a) Calculate the amount of energy that flows per unit of time through each glass layer and the air between the layers. b) Determine the total rate of energy flow through the entire window. c) Provide a critical analysis, pointing out possible improvements in the window insulation system that could be explored in a winter sustainability project.
