The proposed activities encourage collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity, while making use of technologies familiar to students, making learning more engaging and relevant to their realities.

Activity Suggestions

It is recommended that only one of the suggested activities be carried out

Activity 1 -  Creating a Literary House on Instagram

> Duration: 60 - 70 minutes

- Objective: Stimulate creativity and students' knowledge about the chosen naturalist author, as well as promote research and information synthesis skills in a digital format.

- Description: Students will create a fictional Instagram account dedicated to a naturalist author and their works. Each group will choose an author and create posts describing their main works, notable excerpts, critical analysis, and curiosities about the author's life and historical context.

- Instructions:

  • Divide students into groups of up to 5 people.

  • Each group must choose an author from the naturalist movement.

  • Based on prior study, students should create an Instagram account dedicated to the chosen author.

  • Each post must include an image related to the theme (book covers, visual representations of the works or the historical context) and a detailed description about the work or the author.

  • Encourage students to be creative with the formatting of the posts, using hashtags, emojis, and even stories to engage the audience.

  • At the end of the activity, each group will give a brief presentation (5 minutes) about their account, highlighting the most interesting aspects and the creative process.

Students must interpret clues and solve puzzles that reveal characteristics of the characters and contexts of the works.

- Instructions:

  • Divide the class into groups of up to 5 people.

  • Ask each group to choose a naturalist work and create a quiz with questions based on the characteristics of the characters, plots, and historical context.

  • The quizzes should include not only multiple-choice questions but also interactive challenges (for example, identifying audio excerpts, solving literary puzzles).

  • After creating the quizzes, groups will exchange quizzes with each other to answer.

Conclusion

Duration: 10 - 15 minutes

Purpose: The objective of this stage of the lesson plan is to consolidate the learnings acquired during the lesson, reflecting on how digital activities helped to understand the naturalist movement more deeply and contextually. This final reflection reinforces knowledge, promotes critical thinking, and highlights the connection between literature and modern reality, preparing students to apply this knowledge in other contexts.

Summary

Animated Summary: Imagine a grand theater where the actors are writers and their works are the plays performed. Today's stage was the naturalist movement! Students explored, interactively, how naturalist writers observed the world with a scientific lens, deeply examining society and its nuances. They differentiated naturalism from romanticism (full of emotions and ideals) and realism (objective observation), and delved into the works of authors like Émile Zola and Aluísio Azevedo, revealing historical and social contexts that shaped their narratives.

World Connection

In the Modern World: Through the creation of digital content, students realized how literature can be as dynamic as the social media they use daily. They understood that, just like current influencers, naturalist writers impacted their societies by highlighting social and human issues. The digital tools used in class allowed them to see naturalism through a modern lens, showing that literature, although old, remains alive and relevant today.

Practical Application

Applications: The study of the naturalist movement helps students develop a critical eye on society and its dynamics. By understanding the historical and social influences on literary works, they can apply this analysis to the contemporary world, becoming more aware and critical of the social issues that still prevail. This strengthens their skills in argumentation and critical thinking, essential for both academic and personal life.
