During the second half of the 20th century, the world found itself involved in a complex scenario of political, economic, and ideological tensions, known as the Cold War. The dispute for global hegemony between the United States and the Soviet Union resulted in a bipolar division of the world, where each superpower exerted its influence over a set of nations and promoted its respective economic and political systems. In this regard, historian Eric Hobsbawm states: 'The Cold War became the great arbiter of the power and politics of the world.' Considering this perspective, answer: 1) How did the Cold War reflect the 'armed peace' and the ideological rivalry between capitalism and socialism/communism? 2) How did the division of the world into blocs led by the USA and the USSR influence the internal and external policies of other countries during this period?
