Premises: This Active Lesson Plan assumes: a 100-minute class duration, prior student study both with the Book and the beginning of Project development, and that only one activity (among the three suggested) will be chosen to be carried out during the class, as each activity is designed to take up a large part of the available time.

Objective

Duration: (5 - 7 minutes)

This section lays out the learning goals for the class, guiding students on what’s expected of them by the end of the session. By focusing on identifying and describing invasion sports, as well as making comparisons, students will gain practical knowledge applicable during classroom activities, fostering a deeper and more engaged learning experience.

Objective Utama:

1. Identify and describe the main characteristics of invasion sports such as soccer, handball, basketball, futsal, rugby, frisbee, American football, water polo, and hockey.

2. Compare invasion sports, highlighting their similarities and differences in terms of rules, objectives, and game strategies.

Objective Tambahan:

  1. Develop critical analysis skills by evaluating the strategies used in different invasion sports.

Introduction

Duration: (15 - 20 minutes)

This introduction phase is aimed at engaging students and connecting their existing knowledge to practical applications in the classroom. The proposed scenarios will inspire students to think critically while applying the strategies discussed to real game contexts, whilst the context highlights the cultural significance of invasion sports, motivating students to appreciate learning about them.

Problem-Based Situation

1. Given that all invasion sports involve ball possession and controlling space, what would be the best strategy for a rugby team to break through a solid defence?

2. Imagine you’re coaching a futsal team that’s trailing by one goal with just two minutes left on the clock. What tactics would you employ to potentially turn the game around, taking into account the unique rules of futsal?

Contextualization

Invasion sports not only feature prominently in international competitions but also play a major role in the daily lives of countless individuals, serving as vital tools for developing social, strategic, and physical skills. For example, soccer, often referred to as the world’s game, has a rich history intertwined with global socio-political events, having been used across various contexts to unite people from diverse cultures and communities.

Development

Duration: (75 - 80 minutes)

The development stage allows students to apply their prior knowledge about invasion sports practically and interactively. By working in groups, they will not only enhance their communication and teamwork skills but also engage their critical thinking and strategic planning abilities. This part of the lesson is crucial for bridging theory and practice, empowering students to think and act like proper sports strategists.

Activity Suggestions

It is recommended that only one of the suggested activities be carried out

Activity 1 - Field Strategy: A Planning Game

> Duration: (60 - 70 minutes)

- Objective: Develop strategic planning and decision-making skills under pressure.

- Description: In this activity, students will be split into groups of five, and each group will act as the coaching team for a soccer team. They'll be presented with a game scenario where their team is down by one goal with only 15 minutes left. Groups will need to devise a detailed strategy to turn the game around, including substitutions, tactical formations, and specific player instructions.

The activity will require them to create diagrams on poster boards to illustrate their game formations.

- Instructions:

  • Form groups of five students.

  • Distribute details about the water polo teams.

  • Allow groups 40 minutes to discuss and formulate their strategies.

  • Groups should illustrate their formations and strategies on poster board.

Wrap up the lesson with a group discussion, encouraging students to reflect on the activities. Start with a recap of the strategies developed and ask questions to prompt students to share their experiences and insights. Ask about the challenges they faced, which strategies they enjoyed devising the most, and how they plan to apply what they've learned in real game scenarios.

Key Questions

1. What were the main challenges your group encountered when developing strategies for the different sports?
